Where we work
RACED works across the whole of Benin, with priority for the places where pressure on natural resources and community vulnerability are greatest: northern Benin, its rural areas and the buffer zones of protected areas.
Boundaries: geoBoundaries (departments) and Natural Earth (countries), simplified.
Twelve departments, one national territory
Three departments concentrate our documented projects — Alibori, Atacora, Borgou. In the other nine, our work is occasional (awareness sessions, international days) and will be detailed here as reports are published.

Where biodiversity and rural poverty converge
Northern Benin is home to the W-Arly-Pendjari complex, the largest network of savannah protected areas in West Africa. Its neighbouring communes — Malanville, Karimama, Banikoara, Kandi, Tanguiéta, Matéri — live in direct contact with wildlife, gallery forests and wetlands.
These are also territories where households depend almost entirely on rain-fed agriculture, where soils are degrading and where women struggle to access land and credit. That intersection of ecological stakes and social vulnerability guides the priority given to our areas of intervention.
Our head office is in Parakou, capital of Borgou and the crossroads of the North, a few hours from each commune where we work.

Funders, local authorities, researchers, sister organisations: we are looking for partners to extend our work in northern Benin and document what works.
